Dustin R. Thompson works with clients in MWR Legal’s unique
“Outsourced General Counsel” Program, helping them throughout all stages of
growth. The combination of Mr. Thompson’s fundamental business acumen
with his litigation and business counsel experience provides a wealth of
expertise. As a former general counsel, Mr. Thompson consistently
negotiated and resolved disputes with subcontractors and clients, oversaw the
negotiation and terms of large construction and development contracts, and was
responsible for development and management of the company’s employment policies
and practices. Additionally, as the director of the Austin office, he generated new business for
the company, executed the performance of hundreds of construction contracts,
and managed staff. Mr. Thompson’s hands-on experience
with the day-to-day management of a growing business makes him a fantastic
resource for many MWR Legal clients who often face similar obstacles. Prior to serving as general counsel, Mr. Thompson was a
senior associate at a boutique law firm in Atlanta. There, he handled a wide range
of corporate matters as both counselor and advocate in mediation, trial, and
appeal, including several trials as lead or sole counsel. His complex commercial practice encompassed contract
law, secured transactions, finance, bankruptcy, real estate, and other general
business matters. Mr. Thompson has also represented executive level clients in
disputes over company ownership and control in cases concerning accelerated
stock option vesting plans, breach of fiduciary duty, corporate opportunity,
misappropriation of trade secrets, malpractice, and breach of employment
contracts. Mr. Thompson’s wide range of corporate and litigation
experience proves invaluable for MWR Legal clients, who appreciate the
realistic business and legal guidance Dusty provides as counsel. Mr. Thompson is a member of the State Bars of Texas and Georgia, and is
an active member of the Austin Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Thompson
graduated from Emory University School of Law in 2003, where he was a member of
Moot Court Society. He received his B.A.
with honors, from the Dedman College Honors Program at Southern Methodist
University in 2000. He is currently pursuing his M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business in the
